Tne International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention) enters into force 8 September 2017!
With the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention) coming into force on 8 September 2017, owners, ship managers and operators are reminded of the following:
This means that any ballast water discharged on or after 8 September 2017 must be compliant either to D-1 or D-2 depending on the ship’s compliance date.
The ship needs to have on board a ship specific approved Ballast Water Management Plan (BWMP), which is the basis for achieving an International Ballast Water Management Certificate (IBWMC). This should also be on board no later than 8 September 2017!
A Ballast Water Management Record Book and reporting are also requirements that must be in place by 8 September 2017.
It should be noted that Ballast Water Exchange (BWE), record keeping and reporting, are already requirements at national level in some countries - predominantly in the United States.
Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
All of BIMCO's most widely used contracts and clauses as well as advice on managing charters and business partners.
For general guidance and information on cargo-related queries.
