It is a type of goethite material formed as a by-product of zinc production. Geothite is a dark or yellowish-brown mineral consisting of hydrated iron oxide/iron oxide mineral, occurring typically as masses of fibrous crystals.
Paragoethite is so named since the process differs from the normal "geothite process". Paragoethite is some sort of zinc smelter residual product. This product contains, amongst its composition, the following; silicon dioxide ( silica, amorphous), Lead (II) sulphate, zinc sulphate, aluminium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, zinc sulphide, zinc oxide and potassium sulphate.
Slight odour. Insoluble in water. There is also the process called the Paragoethite process that removes iron in zinc hydrometallurgy. Uses: refining intermediate zinc production.
