Description

This material is dust from the steelmaking furnace treatment plant (scrap-based steel production). This dust is from the exhaust gas of the electric arc furnace ( EAF). It is filtered out and then collected and pelletized to reduce dust during handling. Reddish brown in colour. Odourless. It is also known as EAF dust, still mill dust and red dust. This material or EAF dust contains zinc (20 - 45% ), iron (up to 20%), calcium oxide, and lead (up to 3%). Uses: as a raw material for zinc recovery. Bulk density: 1,600 to 2,083 kg/m3.
Non-IMSBC Code information: (1) This material is basically created in the process of melting steel scrap where the off-gas from the electric arc furnace contains this dust, which is filtered out in a filter plant and collected in a silo. (2) It is free-flowing cargo. (3) Even though it is mentioned as odourless, there is a slight odour reminiscent of blasted rock. |
