New BIMCO ship sale and purchase standard heading for industry consultation

BIMCO’s Documentary Committee has positively received a new standard Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the sale and purchase of ships, thereby opening the doors to wide industry consultation before finalising and publishing the new standard next year.

New GENCON charter party expected in 2021

The revision of BIMCO’s most widely used voyage charter party – GENCON – is entering its completion phase, as the drafting team will meet during the autumn to process invaluable feedback received by the industry over the summer.

New gas tanker form paves the way for revision of ASBATANKVOY

BIMCO and the Association of Ship Brokers & Agents (U.S.A.), Inc. (ASBA) have approved a voyage charter party, ASBAGASVOY, for publication to serve the growing gas tanker industry. Work will now begin to revise ASBATANKVOY, one of the most used tanker charter parties in the world.

BIMCO adopts the industry’s first ship sale and leaseback standard

Sale and leaseback transactions have seen a substantial increase in recent years as an alternative method of ship financing, and BIMCO has adopted a new term sheet which will facilitate the negotiation of sale and leaseback deals and make the process cheaper for parties involved.

Slew of new contracts and clauses top BIMCO committee’s upcoming meeting

Projects for standard contracts and clauses covering almost every sector of the shipping industry will be reviewed by BIMCO’s Documentary Committee (DC) when it meets on 21 and 22 September. The gathering of over 70 documentary experts from around the world will take place online for the first time and two new contracts and two clauses are set to be approved for publication.

Industry survey shows switch to low-sulphur fuel has not been without problems

The maritime industry’s transition to the sulphur regulation from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) which came into force on 1 January 2020 has not been without problems. Since fuel oil properties are fluctuating, it is expected that quality and safety problems will continue to be a challenge for the global shipping industry.
