The United States is stimulating regional and international partners to establish a naval operation to protect their nationally flagged vessels operating in the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait (BAM) and the Gulf of Oman. The goal of the operation - code named 'Operation Sentinel' - is to promote maritime stability, ensure safe passage, and de-escalate tensions.
While the United States has committed to supporting this initiative, contributions and leadership from regional and international partners will be required to succeed. The shipping industry is encouraged to support Operation Sentinel by following the guidance provided below.
Questions like e.g. which navies form part of Operation Sentinel, and which navies will have access to the information submitted by shipowners, shall be directed to UKMTO via the usual channels.
