Taking a step up multiple ladders concerning both logistic efficiency and environmental protection, the Chinese Maritime Safety Administration has issued a list of cargoes that prospectively will require deployment of oil boom when the ship is engaged in loading, unloading or transferring listed cargo.
The listed cargoes are persistent oils mentioned in MARPOL Annex 1, hazardous liquid substances listed in chapters 17 and 18 of the IBC Code and MEPC.2/24. Members are encouraged to forward questions on this subject to BIMCO using marinfo@bimco.org
At the same time, the previous notice (Public notice (2019) no. 2) requiring ships to deploy oil booms has been withdrawn.
Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
