Overview

  • Updated list of local restrictions on the discharge of the wash water from Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS) now available for members

BIMCO gathers information on countries and individual ports that have restricted or banned discharge of wash water from exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) within their jurisdiction to exclusively support our members that may be using scrubbers to avoid falling foul of any local restrictions.

Whilst globally, IMO’s 2021 Guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning apply – with Section 10 of the guidelines stipulating the wash water discharge criteria and limits, including that wash water levels should be continuously monitored and recorded when operated while the ship is in ports, harbours or estuaries there are a number of countries and ports that have implemented regulations that differ from those Guidelines.

Recent additions to the list include Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Netherlands, Romania and Spain.

The list is exclusively for the use of BIMCO members to use but collaboration with members is also important. Should you be aware of any port or country with different rules or where we have a gap please do reach out so we can provide everyone with the best, and most up-to-date, information on restrictions.
