The winter season 2023 has begun, and so we will be reporting on a weekly basis, including for the Baltic and Canadian regions .
The BIMCO Baltic ice reporting season for 2032/2024 covering the Baltic and Canadian regions commences this week. We will also report on Greenland, Japanese ports and Northern Chinese ports (once available) as well.
If you are a BIMCO member, you can use the BIMCO ice information available online covering information ranging from basic guidance in understanding ice navigation, the Egg Code and the Polar Code to guidance on navigating the various ice regions in the world.
In addition, BIMCO has partnered with Witherbys to publish the "Ice Navigation and Seamanship Handbook". This is a comprehensive publication that can assist all users, including a novice reader, who are looking for a good foundation in understanding the various types of ice that exist as well as the different ice regions and navigational challenges experienced by ships.
For the experienced ice navigator, the handbook also includes a chapter dedicated to the applicable international, regional and local regulations and guidance that ships must comply with when operating in ice conditions.
Ice reporting is available only available to members – please remember to log in using the orange button at the top of the website. If you are from a member organisation but do not yet have your own account, you can create one after you click on the login button. If you are not a member, you can read more about member benefits and how to join.
