Wood pulp or Pulp wood - two different cargoes

BIMCO has received some enquiries relating to two cargoes: wood pulp and pulp wood. Are they different, or the same? And are fixed CO₂ fittings on ships required to carry these cargoes?

Wood pulp and pulp wood are not only two different cargoes but are of different types: general cargo and solid bulk cargo respectively.

Pulp wood is considered a cargo that is non-combustible or has a low fire risk and as such, is exempted from having CO₂ fittings as per MSC.1/Circ.1395/rev.4 where pulp wood is listed therein.

As for wood pulp carried in bales, whether they should be carried on ships with or without CO₂ fittings depends on the information and requirements provided by the shipper.
