Greyish-white or white in colour.
Non-IMSBC Code information - Dry in forms of either lumps, granules or powder, composing mainly of calcium oxide and traces of magnesia and trace elements. Soluble in water and glycerin but not in alcohol. Mp: 2570C, bp: 2850C. Is prepared by heating limestone. See cargo "limestone" for more information under this category. Used in various processes e.g. in (1) pyrometallurgical processes- fluxing and purification of metals, (2) aqueous processes - neutralisation of acids and (3) chemical processes - as causticising agent. Also used as a source of calcium for various chemical and building products and for soil stabilisation. |
