It is a natural rock (light brown to white) consisting mostly of calcium phosphate and used as a raw material for manufacture of phosphate fertilisers, phosphoric acid, phosphorus and animal feeds. Its texture varies from being a sandy powder, fine ground rock or prills to a lumpy material containing a high percentage of dust. Phosphate rock is also sometimes crushed to make phosphate fines.
