Description

Intermediate granular leach by-product that is grey to brown in colour, formed as a result of the hydrometallurgical production of zinc and/or zinc-compounds. A granular substance obtained during dissolution of zinc ores or concentrate in sulphuric acid to produce zinc sulphate solutions after physical separation such as flotation and filtration. Insoluble. Bulk density: 800 to 1,600 kg/m3.
Non-IMSBC Code information (ref: CCC 6/5/3 and CCC 6/inf.4, Belgium) : This product is the insoluble fraction produced when zinc and other metals are leached with sulphuric acid from calcined raw materials. This material is washed, filtered and conditioned for bulk transport. It is produced worldwide as a by-product of the electrolytic zinc production process. The product can be further processed by means of smelting to recover the lead and small amounts/traces of the precious metals, silver and gold that it contains. Hence this product is sold to lead smelters or equivalent facilities for such recovery. |
