Mandatory IMSBC Code application: this entry does not apply to cargoes that meet the criteria indicated in sections 9.2.2.5 and 9.2.3.6 of the IMSBC Code. Cargoes under this entry may contain substances like cadmium, lead, hexavalent chromium, boron and fluorine that are hazardous to human health.
Description (non-mandatory): a cargo having main component of slag from iron and steel manufacture and slag mixed with one of the following additives or a combination thereof : cement, granulated blast furnace slag and concrete debris. This cargo may include shaped blocks made of iron and steel slag with a combination of cement and ground granulated blast furnace slag. . This cargo is a vitrified or crystallised solid formed out of high temperature processes and a mixture of several mineralogical phases. Colour range: from greyish-white to dark grey. The cargo is mostly a stable product before transportation through it being aged and slaked for the volume and/or chemical stability in practical applications. Physical properties such as grain size etc are controlled for performance requirement if required in order to transport it at room temperature. Uses: civil engineering and road construction materials, concrete aggregates, soil improvement, raw materials for cement industry and fertilizers. Bulk density: 1,200 to 3000 kg/m3.
The entry does not include both slag residue and hot iron and steel slag discharged from iron and steelmaking processes.
