Marsden Point, New Zealand, Tops new BIMCO terminal vetting report

Marsden Point, New Zealand came out as the highest rated bulk terminal in BIMCOs Terminal Vetting Scheme. With 161 ships from 132 companies involved in the scheme, the report now covers 419 terminals globally. Just under 95% of the reports were rated average or better, which gave an average rating of 3.6 (out of five), suggesting positive trends for the future.

BIMCO and ASBA join forces to develop gas tanker voyage charter party

ASBATANKVOY, one of the most widely used tanker charter parties in the world, will form the basis when BIMCO and the Association of Ship Brokers & Agents (U.S.A.), Inc. (ASBA) begin to jointly develop a charter party specifically for use in the gas tanker trade.

BIMCO and INTERTANKO publish Q&As for scrubber-fitted ships

BIMCO and INTERTANKO have jointly published Q&As addressing the contractual implications owners and charterers should keep in mind when chartering ships fitted with scrubbers. The Q&As highlight the key charter party clauses and concepts which should be reviewed for both time and voyage charter parties.

New Cyber Security Clause from BIMCO

BIMCO’s Documentary Committee has agreed a new standard Cyber Security Clause that requires the parties to implement cyber security procedures and systems, to help reduce the risk of an incident and mitigate the consequences should a security breach occur.

IMO-meeting was not a missed opportunity

What the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and the working group accomplished last week, was to finalise and agree on a set of procedures for assessment of impact on states from the proposed short-term measures. An important stop block has thus been removed which paves the way for advancement of individual proposals. The meeting didn’t postpone anything.

BIMCO to publish industry’s first offshore decommissioning contract

BIMCO’s Documentary Committee has approved an international standard contract for offshore decommissioning projects to provide a balanced set of terms and conditions to both parties in the process.

Support for BIMCO proposal at IMO to harmonize data

BIMCO gained solid support for a submission at the 43rd session of the Facilitation Committee meeting (FAL 43) held at the IMO Headquarters on 8-12 April that will ensure harmonisation of data exchanges and reduce the administrative burden for ships.

EU ship recycling rules look like protectionism

Only nine shipyards, out of 26, on the EU list of approved recycling facilities are realistically open for ship recycling, and only three of the 26 could recycle a large ship (Panamax size or larger), a study commissioned by BIMCO shows. 

BIMCO to open Athens office

BIMCO will open an office in Athens in the early summer of 2019. The objective is to have a stronger and closer dialogue with BIMCO’s Greek membership and to recruit more Greek members. The Greek shipowners are already the biggest group of BIMCO members measured by fleet size.
