BIMCO to publish industry’s first offshore decommissioning contract

BIMCO’s Documentary Committee has approved an international standard contract for offshore decommissioning projects to provide a balanced set of terms and conditions to both parties in the process.

Şadan Kaptanoğlu elected BIMCO President

Şadan Kaptanoğlu, managing director of HI Kaptanoglu Shipping, was elected President of BIMCO – the world’s largest shipping association – at its General Meeting in Athens on Tuesday 14 May.

BIMCO hires manager for Athens office

BIMCO has signed a contract with Elena Tassioula as manager of BIMCO’s new office in Athens, Greece. Elena will be engaging BIMCO’s current members in Athens and work to grow the membership in Greece.

Support for BIMCO proposal at IMO to harmonize data

BIMCO gained solid support for a submission at the 43rd session of the Facilitation Committee meeting (FAL 43) held at the IMO Headquarters on 8-12 April that will ensure harmonisation of data exchanges and reduce the administrative burden for ships.

BIMCO supports Anti-Corruption push at the IMO

BIMCO has co-sponsored a proposal at the 43rd session of the Facilitation Committee (FAL 43) held at the IMO Headquarters on 8-12 April, putting anti-corruption formally on the IMO agenda going forward.

EU ship recycling rules look like protectionism

Only nine shipyards, out of 26, on the EU list of approved recycling facilities are realistically open for ship recycling, and only three of the 26 could recycle a large ship (Panamax size or larger), a study commissioned by BIMCO shows. 

BIMCO to open Athens office

BIMCO will open an office in Athens in the early summer of 2019. The objective is to have a stronger and closer dialogue with BIMCO’s Greek membership and to recruit more Greek members. The Greek shipowners are already the biggest group of BIMCO members measured by fleet size.

BIMCO is launching a new business area – Publications – with the aim to share more of the organization’s expert knowledge and increase the amount of publications offered.

COSCO chair receives BIMCO President’s award

Captain Xu Lirong, Chairman of COSCO Shipping, received the President’s Award at the BIMCO Conference in Shanghai for his excellent life-long service to the shipping industry. China Merchants Energy Shipping received the award for Best Shipping Company of Greater China Area 2019.

The new digital BIMCO Bulletin is out

The new BIMCO magazine the “Bulletin” is out. The February issue looks at the financial side of 2020, offers the latest market analysis from Chief Shipping Analyst, Peter Sand and talks to the UN about smuggling. Also, BIMCO’s Secretary General, Angus Frew, calls for naval support in the Gulf of Guinea in his foreword.
