6th BIMCO report on Amendments to the IMSBC Code entering into force - re-assignment of bulk cargo shipping names for generic dangerous goods.

Overview

BIMCO started reporting from 30 September 2020,  a series of articles, informing members of what to expect in the revised International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code (Amendment 05-19), which will come into force on 1 January 2021. This is the 6th article in the series. Today, BIMCO reports on how a Bulk Cargo Shipping name (BCSN) is assigned to  generic dangerous goods carried in solid bulk cargo form as a result of Amendment 05-19.

All solid bulk cargoes under the IMSBC Code must be identified in the transport documentation by their BCSN ( reference: section 4.1.1.1 of the IMSBC Code).

However, due to Amendment 05-19, the assignment of dangerous goods as defined in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods ( IMDG) Code, has undergone a change as far as the allocation of a BCSN for generic dangerous goods carried in solid bulk form under the IMSBC Code is concerned.

To read the full BIMCO's 6th report on the IMSBC Code Amendments as well as an understanding of how BCSN is allocated to a solid bulk cargo, please go to our BIMCO Solid Bulk Cargo Section/Assignment of BCSN.

VPS Bunker Alerts

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.

The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
