CINS issues revised guidelines for the safe carriage of charcoal in containers

Published: 02 October 2024

These guidelines take into account the recent amendments made to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code on charcoal requirements for packaged goods.

In 2023, we advised about the upcoming IMDG Code regulations that would make a major impact on the whole supply chain of charcoal shipment.

The CINS (Cargo Incident Notification System), together with International Group of P&I Clubs and TT Club have now updated their guidelines for the safe carriage of charcoal in containers, taking these amendments into account.

To see the full details of the upcoming IMDG Code regulations that will enter into voluntary application on 1 January 2025 and mandatory on 1 January 2026, as well as the revised CINS guidelines, please go to our members’ cargo section: upcoming IMDG Code regulations and Guidelines for the Safe Carriage of Charcoal in Containers

If you are involved in shipment of charcoal, it is important to follow these guidelines and comply with the revised charcoal requirements.
